Breeding Guide
This guide describes the current Simpets breeding rules. For inherited trait details, read the Genetics Guide.
Who can breed?
- You must own both pets, and they must be two different individuals.
- Both must be adults at Level 3 or higher.
- The pair may be the same species or different species.
- The parents do not need to be opposite genders.
- Both must be younger than 20 pet years. Simpets counts one real week as one pet year.
Open Breed, select the two eligible pets, enter a name for the offspring, and submit. The page will report if a pet does not meet the current requirements.
How the offspring’s appearance is chosen
- The system randomly chooses one parent for this offspring.
- The offspring receives that parent’s species and clean base image.
- The parent images are not split or blended.
- Each offspring is determined separately, so siblings may represent different parents.
- The offspring is created at Level 1. Egg-bearing lines display an Egg until they hatch.
What is inherited from both parents?
No-Merge only controls the visible species and base selection. Permanent genetics are inherited separately from both parents. For each trait, the offspring receives an allele from each parent; dominant and recessive rules determine whether a trait is visible or remains hidden as a carrier.
That means an offspring may look like one parent while carrying genes from both. A gene can be passed along even when its effect is not visible. Marking and genetic effects are explained in the Genetics Guide.
Egg and growth stages
For regular Simpets and Bat lines, a new Level 1 offspring displays as an Egg. After 3 days it advances to Level 2, displays as a Baby, and the owner receives a hatch message. It becomes an adult at Level 3 after 4 more days. The scheduled maintenance job handles these changes; the timed growth does not require boosts or clicks.
Realistics and Ittermat use their own level images and begin as babies rather than Eggs. A Mature Potion can advance a pet to Level 3 immediately.
Pedigree and troubleshooting
- Parent names are recorded on the offspring and can be viewed through family or pedigree tools where available.
- If you cannot select a pet, check that it is yours, is Level 3 or higher, and is younger than 20 pet years.
- If breeding reports a missing image, send an administrator the parent pet IDs and the exact error. The selected parent’s clean base must be available.
- If an Egg is overdue, check the pet’s level and report its ID; the maintenance job may need attention.
